My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. Ps 62:7 (NLT)
This is a testimony of David’s – a revelation he received through experiences. He uses the word ‘MY’ and owns both of these statements in a personal manner.
Never underestimate or take for granted the power of learning through experience. I love listening to preaching, learning from others experiences and gleaning from their wisdom. But when it comes to it, we still live life – No one lives our lives for us, our life is ours to live. Things happen every day, experiences are what we are tangibly walking through right now. And through everything that happens to us and everything that we do, there is something to learn, an opportunity to grow, wisdom that we can claim because not only have we heard it, but we’ve lived it.
Don’t let these declarations and prayers be lip service – things you say that have no meaning to your life. Allow them to work their way into your heart and spirit, so that as you live your life, they permeate your experiences and become your testimony also.
Know and experience that your victory and honour come from God alone. And that God is YOUR refuge – not someone else’s, not the pastors or your friends or whoever – but your refuge. In times of challenge and heartache, He is your shelter, the one who protects you from bitterness and offence, from the corrupt nature of sin… In times of challenge, He is the rock you stand on – steadying you, being a sure, tried and true foundation. A rock of hope, overcoming, and victory.
Don’t just read this psalm and think “oh how lovely…” Seek to know God as David did. Through every season, every trial, every experience, look to Jesus and experience His great love, experience the things you’ve heard preached about Him, out your ‘faith’ to the test and find out that He is all that He says He is. Your strength, your refuge, your rock.
